Ticket to Work Program
A New Lease on Life
Now that you have a new lease on life, it’s time to start working at taking care of the gift you have received. For many of you, this may mean returning to work in order to be eligible for health insurance which will help you to keep your transplanted organ working properly. The Tulane Abdominal Transplant Institute can help you find employment through the Ticket to Work and Self Sufficiency Program.
The Ticket to Work and Self-Sufficiency Program is an employment program for people with medical disabilities who are interested in going to work. The Ticket Program is part of the Ticket to Work and Work Incentives Improvement Act of 1999 – legislation designed to remove many of the barriers that previously influenced people’s decisions about going to work because of the concerns over losing health care coverage. The goal of the Ticket Program is to increase opportunities and choices for Social Security disability beneficiaries to obtain employment, vocational rehabilitation, and other support services from public and private providers, employers, and other organizations.
Day-to-day administration of the Ticket Program is the responsibility of the Program Manager. The Social Security Administration has contracted with MAXIMUS, a private company, to perform this role.
If you are interested in returning to work, please contact the Tulane Abdominal Transplant social workers at 504-988-5344.
