Adult Programs
Beginning in 1959 with the first kidney transplant performed in the region, Tulane has continued to be a leader in the field of organ transplantation. Since that time, Tulane has successfully developed a multi-organ transplant center for both children and adults—offering transplant for kidney, liver, pancreas, heart, and intestinal failure patients.
To date, we have performed over 3000 solid organ transplants. The successful growth of the kidney and pancreas transplant program in the 90’s has made Tulane the largest kidney transplant program in the region and in the top 10% nationally. Despite Hurricane Katrina, we remain the largest volume center in the region, performing over 180 kidney and pancreas transplant per year.
