Tulane Institute of Sports Medicine - Athletic Training
Our Athletic Trainers really can do it all. They work hand in hand with our excellent physicians to provide you with the best quality health care in the gulf south. They are experts in the field of sports medicine and contribute in a number of different ways from administration, brace fitting, rehabilitative exercise, to on the field injury management. Having a staff of Athletic Trainers is invaluable and is really what sets the Tulane Institute of Sports Medicine apart in the global health care market.
Athletic Trainers
Bobbie Hirsch MEd, ATC, LAT
Bobbie, a New Orleans native, received her Bachelor’s degree in exercise science from Auburn University and her Master’s in exercise physiology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham where she worked with Women’s basketball at Samford University. She previously worked at Tennessee State University with women’s basketball and football, and also taught in the department of health and human performance before joining the Tulane Institute of Sports Medicine in 2007. She has been a member of the LHSAA sports medicine advisory board since its inception.
Matthew Hollifield, LAT
Matthew attended the University of Louisiana, Lafayette where he attained his Bachelor’s degree in athletic training. He has been a Licensed Athletic Trainer since 2002. Previously he worked for Kenner Orthopedic and Sports Medicine where he did outreach to several area high schools. Matthew does volunteer work with the USA taekwondo, Nike Sparq training camps, ICON/Velocity performance, and the Gulf Coast Sports Academy. He has been with the Tulane Institute of Sports Medicine since 2007.
William Keller, ATC, LAT
William Keller ATC, LAT grew up in Luling, LA and received his Bachelor’s of Science degree from Nicholls State University. He has recently been elected as Director of Continuing Education for the Louisiana Athletic Trainers Association (www.lata.org). He was the coordinator for our aquatic therapy center renovation. Prior to working at TISM, William worked for Ochsner Sports Medicine where he served as the Head Athletic Trainer for Delgado Community College from January 2007 through June 2008. William has been a BOC Certified athletic trainer and LSBME credentialed athletic trainer since 2007. He is married to his wife, Heather and they have one little girl, Maggie.
Patrick Maloney, MS, ATC, LAT
A native of San Diego, CA, Patrick received his Bachelor’s degree in exercise and nutritional sciences with an emphasis in Athletic Training from San Diego State University in 2004. He continued on to attain his Master’s degree in Kinesiology from California State University, Northridge in 2006. At Northridge he taught a Kinesiology lab and authored the thesis “Job Satisfaction: A Comparison of Athletic Trainers in Different Job Settings”. Patrick was previously with Tulane University Athletics where he worked with track and field and football before joining the Tulane Institute of Sports Medicine in 2009. He specialized in proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation and manual resistive exercise.
